Day 273 – Fame – Short Story

The TV screen flickers to life, and an awkward middle aged man in a grey suite stares from the other side, smilingly faintly before adjusting himself in his seat, “Welcome back, this is Monger, and I, am James Mercado, tonight we are joined by reality TV star and icon, Patrick Templer,” he says, as the camera angle changes to include another man, his pecks dance, as he smirks, and nods his head towards James, and then the camera.

“Pleasure to be here broman,” Patrick says smugly, as he flexes his biceps, and puckers his lips several lips as if preparing himself for a kiss.

“Haha, yes, broman indeed,” James says awkwardly with a laugh, before adjusting himself in his seat once more, furrowing his brow, and leaning in towards Patrick. “Now, Patrick, if you don’t mind, I’d like to start off tonight, with something most people out there, in TV land, don’t know about you, about the real you, away from the spotlight of the cameras,” he says.

Patrick leans back in the chair and rubs one of his massive hands against his chin, tightening his lips together and pressing them against his nose, “James, bro, this, this has totally caught me off guard mate, I came here to talk about my new movie, not what I, Patrick Templer does outiside of my stardom,” he says, before turning swiftly back towards James, smiling for a moment, then quickly, dropping the trademark smile for a frown.

“Ummm, okay, yes, well, of course we’ll talk about the movie, but, I want to talk about all the causes you’ve been a part of in the last few months, because, when I saw the list, I couldn’t help but be mystified, I never knew you were so active in so many fields.”

Patrick shines his pearly white teeth into more with a broad smile, “I came from working class, my parents, worked hard to pay for my schooling, my degrees, my first car and home, and, well, I see so much out there, that I could do to make the word better, that I just want to get out there and do it, so, that’s where you’ll find me, when I’m not working on some multimillion dollar movie, in the trenches, helping those when need it.”

“Wow, that’s just extraordinary,” James says, as he smiles broadly. “Well Patrick, after hearing from you all about what you’ve done with your game, we took the time to contact several of the charities you’ve listed on your cv, and we’ve brought along a few of the workers, to share their stories about you,” he says, Patrick’s smile drops, and his face goes white as the blood drains out. “Are you okay, broman?” James asks.

People are surprised when reading Matthew’s stories that he’s a sane forty something year old, happily married, father of one, employed full time and dream of dark disturbing things that any sane person would never even contemplate thinking of. But it's true, he’s toyed with writing for most of his adult life, but has always found the peg a writer must fit into is not the shape he wished to be. His writing can be described as lamenting, long, concussive (yes it smashes you in the head), compulsive, and stuffed with rhythmic communication and violence, let’s not forget the violence. His own opinion on his writing is this, “You see, I don't just want the words to seep into your mind, but into your soul, showing you images of blood and beauty through, volatile language, violence, sex, love and sin. My muse takes different shapes, and every now and then you can see her shining her wicked smile in some of my stories, tempting you with her promises, but ripping your heart out instead.” So have a look, and take a seat in my wayward ride, as you join me while I purge through, this twisted road of madness.

    1. Haha, thanks so much, sometimes I’m surprised the road is still being travelled. The rules have changed, gone is the editing time, gone is the hour to write, now it’s spit fire and balls to the wall, and, somehow, I’m still enjoying it, great to see you back!

    1. Thanks so much, I was stuck with no idea tonight, and no time, this one, well, I have no idea where it came from, but the idea of those Hollywood types always saying they do so much, just to make their star bigger, intrigued me, if they were brought undone. Thanks again 👍 I’ve got to catch up with your blog, soon!!

      1. This 360 thing you’re doing is like a writers boot camp, mate. I’ll wager you couldn’t have just snapped out a great piece of: no time, no idea what to write about, short fiction like this when you started.

      2. Totally, I was more harder on what I was doing, the ideas became more lost, and I became more against what I was doing, that’s why I have so many unfinished ideas sitting in a pile, one day, once the 365 is up, they may all be birthed here as I clean out my closet, but, first, I’ll take a week or so off when this is all over, just to gather my self and catch up on all the blogs I’m having no time to read at the moment. My daughter has just moved up into a big girl bed, and well, sleep has been rough, although she’s finally starting to settle now, it’s still quite draining working 9+ hours a day, trying to find time to spend with my family, and sleep, and do this, it’s all become quite hectic, but, I still haven’t missed a day…. Yet HAHAH
